Carbide Step Drill – Your Ultimate FAQs Guide
What is a step drill?
ZLY step drill is an efficient industrial drill made of cemented carbide. Its cutting end is designed in a stepped shape, allowing it to machine holes of different diameters or large holes in a single operation.
What are the applications of step drills?
Step drills are used in various fields. They can replace multiple drills and achieve one-time drilling to efficiently machine holes of different diameters.
They are widely used in aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics, and mechanical manufacturing industries.
Why do we need step drills?
Using step drills saves time.
When machining workpieces with holes of different sizes, frequent drill changes are required. Step drills can solve this problem.
What types of step drills can ZLY produce?
According to your different requirements, ZLY can design step drills that can complete drilling and chamfering at the same time, or step drills for 90-degree stepped holes.
What are the quality standards for step drills?
At ZLY, first, we follow the ISO 9001 quality standard.
In addition, we have the following internal standards, including:
Appearance inspection: Using a 50× magnifier for 100% visual inspection to check for chipping, whether the cutting edges are fully ground, and whether there are vibration marks.
Dimensional inspection: We use ZOLLER inspection equipment and laser measuring instruments to strictly measure dimensions and ensure consistency with the drawings.
Regular inspection: For every 3 pieces produced, we carry out inspections to ensure that no dimensional variation occurs during machining.
Cleaning: We use ultrasonic cleaning equipment for secondary cleaning to ensure there are no water marks, oil stains, or fingerprints at delivery.
Sandblasting: Overly sharp cutting edges can easily chip. For tools with higher requirements, we apply a sandblasting process. Without affecting sharpness, the sharp edges are blasted into rounded edges, which can effectively improve surface finish and tool life.
What should be noted when machining with carbide step drills?
You need to pay attention to the feed rate and ensure sufficient cooling.
How should I choose the coating?
When machining aluminum alloys and copper alloys, we generally use a DLC coating or no coating.
When machining hard metals, we recommend using composite coatings.
Do not worry, ZLY’s experienced engineers will design everything for you.
