What is a flat-bottom drill?
The biggest characteristic of a flat-bottom drill is that its cutting end has a flat cutting surface, which is clearly different in appearance from common twist drills or center drills. To some inexperienced apprentices, it does not appear to be significantly different from a two-flute end mill.

What should be noted when drilling stainless steel with a flat-bottom drill?
The work-hardening property of stainless steel places high demands on the tool. When drilling flat-bottom holes, it is recommended to use a coated flat-bottom drill, such as TiAlN, while ensuring sufficient coolant supply, reducing cutting speed, and increasing feed.
When drilling on a flat surface, should you use a flat-bottom drill or a twist drill?
If there is no specific requirement for a flat-bottom hole or blind hole, a carbide twist drill is more efficient and accurate for drilling on flat surfaces.
This is because, if the machine lacks sufficient rigidity, the flat-bottom drill may experience deflection or vibration when its tip first contacts the flat surface, potentially causing tool breakage in severe cases.
Twist drill with a pointed tip for centering does not have this issue.
